Biography

David V. Plant has been a professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at McGill University since 1993.
He received his B.Sc., with honors, M.Sc., and Ph.D. from Brown University in 1985, 1986, and 1989, respectively.
Professional Experience
Healthcare Support Through Information Technology Enhancements (hSITE)
David V. Plant is the Principal Investigator and founding Scientific Director for hSITE. The Research Network received 5.5 million dollars for the direct costs of research over 5 years.
Teaching Awards
At McGill University, David V. Plant was awarded the Principal’s Prize for Teaching Excellence
Research Awards
The 2022 IEEE Canada A.G.L. McNaughton Award
For pioneering contributions to free space and optical fiber transmission systems spanning multiple length scales, and their enabling silicon photonic technologies.
The 2017 IEEE Photonics Society Engineering Achievement Award
For pioneering contributions to optical communications technologies spanning multiple length scales including DSP algorithms for direct detection and coherent systems.
The 2013 Killam Research Fellowship
Fellowships are awarded each year, normally to full professors at Canadian universities and research institutes, who have an outstanding reputation in their area of research.
